Bedroom Door Handles

Bedroom door handles and the styles and designs they encompass speak volumes about the inhabitant of the bedroom. Perhaps nowhere in the home is more regarded as a sanctuary to escape the stresses of the outside world than the solace that can be found in personalized living chambers. It is no surprise that people in various cultures around the world all spend the majority of their time in bedrooms. Considering that humans spend roughly one third of their lives asleep (eight hours of sleep a day divided by twenty-four hours in a day) it really shouldn’t be a surprise that the rooms that get their namesakes from the beds we spend most of our lives in are technically and often personally the most popular rooms in any home.

For very logical reasons the majority of the attention for any new home being build or older home being remodeled goes into the design and style of the master bedroom. This is because the individual purchasing the home or paying for the renovations is likely the person who will be spending the better part of their life in the master bedroom. For this reason bedroom door handles and other bedroom door hardware are priced at premiums because manufacturers know that this is an area where the primary bill payer is likely to splurge and indulge themselves in the finer details that they often rightfully believe they deserve. From classic styles reflecting Victorian ancestry to modern looks that include loft style settings with concrete floors, exposed brick, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) units overhead the looks vary and for every design shift there is a corresponding style of bedroom door handle that is most appropriate considering the desired look and feel.

Even more so than any other area of the home such as the kitchen, den, or bathrooms door handles in the bedrooms must fit a look that meshes with the textiles and soft goods that accent and complete the comforting feel of a cozy bedroom. The blending of door hardware style with contextual feel is no where more important than in properly designing children’s bedrooms. Anyone familiar with the ABC television show Extreme Home Makeover knows that Ty Pennington and his staff of creative designers construct beautiful homes for needy families around the country. In almost every instance a deserving, loving, well intentioned family is struck with a tragic unfortunate event that cripples the household financially. Through no fault of their own these families are forced to make due with unsafe living conditions, share a cheap mattress, and generally live in unsuitable conditions. In many instances the struggling parents can not even afford to provide a properly safe house for their young children that are often dealing with debilitating illnesses. By combing donations from charitable big box retailers like Sears the Extreme Home Makeover crew builds beautiful homes for families in need.

One of the most wonderfully touching aspects of the ABC show is that there is always a very personalized touch built into the homes, particularly with regards to the children’s bedrooms. The children featured in the show are often the real victims of an unfortunate series of events. Miraculously in most instances these same children that have been dealt a bad hand manage to remain headstrong and amazingly mature beyond their years. The show’s designers pay extra attention to what these children (many of whom have never had their own room before) want. If a child loves basketball his room will end up having basketball hoops and a hard court looking hardwood floor. When there is a little girl that loves zoo animals her bedroom will be outfitted with wall paintings of lions and giraffes while satin zebra sheets will adorn her brand new bed (likely donated from Sealy or a similar brand). A little boy that dreams of one day growing up to be an astronaut will likely be ecstatic to find glow in the dark stars and constellations covering the ceiling above his very own rocket ship shaped bed. The one caveat worth mentioning is that sometimes these bedrooms are so unique (imagine a tropical bedroom with bamboo blinds and matching bamboo sheets) that viewers at home are left scratching their hands wondering how these children's rooms can be maintained and how mom will be cleaning bamboo sheets.

Bedroom door handles should be completely personalized pieces of hardware where reasonable expenses should not be spared. One of the most common design tragedies is to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a home and then leave the bedroom with a cheapened look by trying to save twenty or thirty dollars on door handles. The old adage penny wise and pound foolish is one that immediately comes to mind. When shopping for bedroom door handles don’t let the idea of saving a few dollars persuade you into potentially disrupting the ambiance of the tremendous investment (monetary and lifestyle) that has already been made.
